The Orleans Co Jail is a detention center located at 26 S Platt St Albion, NY which is operated locally by the Orleans County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Orleans County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Albion Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

The Orleans County Jail, located in the Village of Albion near the historic Orleans County Courthouse, operates under the supervision of the Jail Superintendent and is tasked with ensuring the facility's safe and secure management. This current jail structure, the fourth to be established on this site since the county's inception in 1824, has an approved capacity to house 82 inmates. However, the facility frequently accommodates more individuals with variances issued by the New York State Commission of Correction.

The jail serves as a detention center for pre-trial felony or misdemeanor defendants and individuals convicted of misdemeanors or violations in county or town courts. The facility is also authorized to house inmates from other counties and, on occasion, provides housing for detainees held by Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), the United States Border Patrol, or the United States Marshal’s Service.

The Jail Superintendent is supported by a command staff comprising three Lieutenants and six Sergeants, who oversee a team of 17 full-time and 10 part-time Correction Officers, along with seven civilian employees. These Correction Officers are responsible not only for maintaining security and supervising inmates but also for transporting inmates to and from county and town courts, medical and dental appointments, and transferring convicted state-ready inmates to the New York State Department of Corrections & Community Supervision (DOCCS).

After processing, inmates are assigned to a housing area based on classification. Compliance with jail rules typically results in a lower classification and more privileges, while rule violations or additional charges lead to a higher classification and fewer privileges. Inmates serving as trustees within the jail undertake various tasks, including cooking, laundry, and commissary management, often receiving minimal compensation or sentence reduction for their services.

The Inmate Services Unit plays a crucial role in implementing, coordinating, and monitoring various facility programs, utilizing both in-house resources and community partnerships to support inmates in fostering positive change. These efforts aim to enhance self-awareness, improve morale, stimulate intellectual growth, uphold dignity, and reduce recidivism. Upon admission, Inmate Services Unit Staff conduct intake interviews, gathering information on personal and family background, criminal history, substance use, and medical and mental health concerns to develop tailored strategies for inmate interaction and program recommendations.

The jail offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. The Jail enforces this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. Inmate workers are chosen based on conduct and cooperation with staff. Participation in the community service program can sometimes reduce sentences. Commissary is available weekly, with orders submitted via kiosk two days in advance. On holidays, there may be increased spending limits.
