The Pasco Co Jail is a detention center located at 20101 Central Blvd Land of Lakes, FL which is operated locally by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Pasco County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Land of Lakes Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
Pasco County Government has initiated several inmate labor programs with the overarching goal of providing vocational training, reducing taxpayer costs, and facilitating the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society. These programs encompass a wide range of activities aimed at both maintaining public facilities and equipping inmates with valuable skills for future employment.
The Inmate Labor Section oversees the administration and supervision of various inmate programs, including Operation Payback, which offers an alternative to jail sentences by assigning defendants to county parks or facilities for general cleaning and grounds maintenance. This initiative not only saves on housing costs but also provides inmates with opportunities for productive engagement.
Additionally, inmates are assigned to County Work Crews, where they assist departments such as Road and Bridge, Parks and Recreation, and Animal Control with maintenance tasks. These assignments contribute to public service efforts while allowing inmates to develop a sense of responsibility and work ethic.
Within the detention facility, inmates participate in the Administrative Clean-Up Crew, undertaking general cleaning tasks in agency buildings throughout the county. Similarly, the Laundry Program engages inmates in the washing, drying, and repairing of jail linens and uniforms, ensuring the smooth operation of essential services within the facility.
Books and magazines ordered for inmates at the County Jail must be sent directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the materials are new, untampered, and in compliance with the facility's regulations. The restriction of orders to publishers is a security measure to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials into the jail. By enforcing this rule, the facility maintains better control over the content entering the institution, thereby enhancing security. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and will not be delivered to the inmate.
Furthermore, the Grounds Maintenance Program focuses on training inmates in the operation of commercial landscaping equipment, aiming to equip them with skills that are relevant to potential employment opportunities upon release. This program serves both practical and rehabilitative purposes by providing inmates with valuable vocational training.
Moreover, the Pasco County Government offers vocational programs in carpentry, welding, and construction, allowing inmates to gain hands-on experience and certification in various trades. These programs not only provide inmates with valuable skills but also offer pathways to employment and successful reintegration into society upon their release.
