The Passaic County Jail serves as a short-term processing facility for adult individuals. Its primary function is to process detainees before transferring them to partner facilities for court scheduling. The Passaic County Jail does not accommodate overnight stays. Under a shared services agreement, male inmates are transferred to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ, while female inmates are relocated to the Hudson County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in Kearny, NJ. In some cases, male inmates may also be housed in Hudson County. For further information, contact the Bergen County Jail at 201-336-3500 or the Hudson County Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at 201-395-5600.

Passaic County also offers alternative programs through its Community Release Center (CRC), which generates revenue and provides services to the community. These programs include the Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program (SLAP) and the Home Detention/GPS Monitoring Program. SLAP allows low-level offenders to fulfill community service obligations under supervision while avoiding incarceration, thus reducing costs to the county. Offenders in this program pay a processing fee, making it self-sustaining. The Home Detention/GPS Monitoring Program allows participants to live at home and work while being tracked via GPS. All associated costs are paid by the offender.
