The Pinal Co Jail is a detention center located at 971 Jason Lopez Cir Florence, AZ which is operated locally by the Pinal County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Pinal County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Florence Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
The Pinal County Detention Center houses an average of 600 inmates daily and operates as the third-largest county jail in Arizona, with a rated capacity of 1,503. Initially opened on April 1, 1996, with a bed capacity of 472, the facility underwent a significant expansion in July 2006, adding 1,031 beds to accommodate the county's growing population. This expansion ensures the appropriate conditions of confinement for the increased inmate population.
The Detention Center participates in the Federal Government’s 287(g) program, with six detention officers holding 287(g) authority. This program allows for a 48-hour hold to enable ICE agents to take custody of individuals identified as being in the country illegally. The primary responsibility of the center is to protect the people of Pinal County, supporting federal partners to ensure community safety and security.
The facility confines individuals arrested and charged with criminal offenses, awaiting disposition of their cases, as well as those sentenced to serve time in the county jail. The Pinal County Jail was selected as a pilot site for Jail Operations Accreditation by the National Sheriffs’ Association, governed by legal-based standards established through case law. The jail received its first accreditation in June 2011 and was reaccredited in December 2013 with a "Level 1" rating, the highest score possible, making it the first jail in Arizona to achieve national accreditation.
Food services and inmate commissary are managed by a contract provider, ensuring daily meals are nutritionally balanced and contain 2,800 calories. Medical services are provided by Pinal County Jail Health, a division of Pinal County Health and Human Services. This includes an initial medical screening, 24/7 medical staffing, daily sick call, and a full-time nurse practitioner.
Mail sent to inmates via regular mail at the Detention Facility will be inspected by jail staff before being delivered to the inmate. Magazines and books are only accepted if they are received through the USPS or other commercial carriers directly from a publisher, ensuring that no literature from personal senders is accepted. Inmates may subscribe to periodicals, but these subscriptions must be arranged and maintained by the inmate or their family without assistance from the jail. All books and periodicals must be addressed with the inmate’s full name as it appears on their ID.
Religious services are contracted through Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, which aims to meet the spiritual needs of inmates and staff. Their ministry includes evangelism, discipleship, and pastoral attention while facilitating services for other religious faiths within legal guidelines and the facility's policies.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office Adult Detention Center is dedicated to facilitating connections between inmates and their loved ones, as well as their legal representatives. To enhance communication, the facility has introduced a state-of-the-art online video visitation system. This system allows visitors to conduct video visits using a computer with high-speed internet and a webcam. On-site video visitations are free of charge, while remote video visits cost $6 for 20 minutes or $10 for 40 minutes. Services may be interrupted or suspended due to operational issues or at the discretion of the Sheriff or Chief Deputy. Discrimination based on disability or other protected classes is strictly prohibited.
To participate in video visitation, all visitors must create an account and schedule visits 24 hours in advance through Securus Technologies. On-site visitors must check in at the jail lobby front desk and may only bring keys and ID.
Effective January 3, 2022, public visitation hours are from 9 am to 4 pm, Saturday through Thursday, with no public visitation on Fridays. Each inmate is limited to two 20-minute on-site visits per week. There is no limit to the number of remote video visits. Legal and professional visits are limited to one hour unless otherwise approved.
Visitors must be at least 18 years old, provide a valid state-issued photo ID, and pass a criminal records check. Those with pending felony charges will be denied access. Minors may visit if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, with legal guardians required to provide court documentation. Personal property, food, drinks, gum, and tobacco are prohibited in visitation areas. Visitors must wear clean and appropriate attire, with restrictions on the length of skirts and shorts, and prohibitions on tank tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps, midriff shirts, and see-through clothing. Hats, sunglasses, purses, cell phones, and electronic devices are also restricted. Visitors under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or in possession of illegal contraband, may face arrest and prosecution. Off-site video visits are monitored for inappropriate behavior.
Professional contact visits for attorneys and investigating officers are available daily from 8 am to 5 pm. Requests for these visits must be emailed to the Sheriff's Office 24 hours in advance, including details such as the reason for the visit, visitor information, and necessary items. Attorneys may request the use of larger rooms or ADA accommodations and must assume the risk of injury if requesting secured doors during visits.
Special visits, excluding legal and professional visits, must be requested by family or friends at least 24 hours in advance and approved by the Deputy Chief or designee. These visits must not interfere with regular visitation hours.
The facility does not allow electronic devices, including cameras, tape recorders, and cell phones, except for law enforcement and legal personnel. Inmate workers assigned to indoor work details are authorized visits and will return to their housing units, while those working outside the facility are not authorized visits at their work assignments.
