The Pitkin Co Jail is a detention center located at 530 E Main St Aspen, CO which is operated locally by the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Pitkin County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Aspen Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

Visitation Information

The Pitkin County Detention Facility does not allow personal contact visits. Instead, video visitation is available throughout all non-lockdown periods, including holidays. Inmates are responsible for notifying visitors of their non-lockdown times. Video visits can be conducted remotely via an internet link or through a kiosk provided in the detention facility's lobby. Each video visit lasts for 20 minutes, and visits are closely monitored to prevent any violations of safety and security rules, including nudity. If any violations occur, detention staff have the authority to terminate the visit and impose a ban on the inmate and visitor from using the video visitation system for a specified period.

The kiosk in the jail lobby is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is free to use. Alternatively, visitors can opt to conduct visits from home through InmateCanteen for a minimal fee. It remains the inmate's responsibility to communicate their availability for visits during the hours of 8:15 am to 10:30 pm MST. While visits are limited to 20 minutes at a time, back-to-back sessions are permitted.
