The Racine Co Jail is a detention center located at 717 Wisconsin Ave Racine, WI which is operated locally by the Racine County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Racine County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Racine Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
The Racine County Jail (RCJ) is one of the largest pre-detention facilities in Wisconsin, with a maximum capacity of 876 detainees. This expansive facility occupies an entire city block in downtown Racine and is equipped with its own health and mental health services, privatized food and commissary services, one of the state's only in-house Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) programs, Chaplain's programming, a law library, a visiting area, and newly implemented video visitation services.
During the intake and admissions process, any money a detainee possesses is placed into an inmate trust account managed by the jail, in accordance with Wis. Stat. § 303.08(3). This trust account can be used for commissary purchases, medical fees, Huber fees, and other authorized disbursements.
Family members and friends can deposit cash, money orders, or cashier’s checks directly into an inmate’s account using the kiosk located at the 24-hour jail entrance off 8th Street.

As a last resort, you might have to pay for that information if we do not have it. The Arrest Record Search will cost you a small amount, but their data is the freshest available and for that reason, they charge to access it.
To ensure the safe, secure, and orderly operation of the facility and to control contraband, all people and items entering or exiting the jail are subject to search. This includes visual, pat, and/or frisk searches conducted by staff of the same sex as the individual being searched. Individuals not in custody who refuse to submit to such searches will be required to leave the jail. In emergencies, all visits to the jail may be canceled.
Inmates classified as Minimum Inmates, AODA participants, Huber inmates, Community Service Workers, and Inmate Workers are allowed non-contact visits (behind glass with a telephone) from family or friends on Sundays during designated visitation times for their security level and housing unit. It is the responsibility of the inmate to inform their visitors of these times, as jail staff will not provide visitation information. Each minimum inmate is allowed one 20-minute visit per week. Inmates on disciplinary status do not receive visitation privileges.
Visitors must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by an adult, and must be completely sober. Cell phones are prohibited in the Law Enforcement Center during visitation. Visitors are required to present a photo identification card that includes their name, date of birth, hair color, sex/race, height, weight, and eye color. Only four visitors are allowed per inmate visit, regardless of the visitors' ages. Visits will be terminated if any inmate or visitor engages in inappropriate behavior or uses inappropriate language.
Inmates not located on a floor listed for scheduled visitation times and not on disciplinary status are eligible for video visits only. These visits can be scheduled at the computer provided in the lobby of the Main Street Professional Entrance of the Racine County Jail at 8:00 am to 11:00 am, 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm, and 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
