The mission of the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office is to protect and serve the citizens of Ralls County, uphold the orders of the courts, and maintain custody and control of detainees. Under the leadership of Sheriff Brad Stinson, the office operates without an on-site detention facility, focusing on law enforcement, investigative duties, and administrative functions. The sheriff’s office is responsible for maintaining public safety, responding to emergencies, conducting criminal investigations, enforcing court orders, and fostering community trust through professional policing.

Ralls County spans 481 square miles in northeast Missouri along the Mississippi River, encompassing several municipalities, including New London, which serves as the county seat. Other municipalities include Center, Perry, and parts of Hannibal and Monroe City. The Ralls County Sheriff’s Office also serves as the primary law enforcement agency for the unincorporated areas of Rensselaer, Saverton, Madisonville, Hassard, Huntington, Spalding, Liberty Township, and the Mark Twain Lake region. Deputies patrol these areas to ensure public safety and address the needs of the county’s diverse communities.

When an individual is arrested in Ralls County, the sheriff’s office handles the initial booking process. This includes recording personal information, documenting the details of the arrest, and taking fingerprints and photographs. Since the county does not have its holding facility, detainees are transferred promptly to nearby regional jails after processing. These facilities are equipped to provide secure housing, meals, medical care, and access to legal resources for detainees from the time of their arrest until their case is resolved in court.

The regional detention centers housing Ralls County detainees also offer services such as visitation, communication with family members and legal representatives, and participation in programs aimed at rehabilitation or legal defense. This collaborative approach ensures detainees are cared for in facilities designed to meet both security and logistical needs. By relying on regional detention centers, the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office can concentrate on its primary mission of maintaining law and order within the county.

Currently, Ralls County works with several neighboring facilities to house detainees, including the Audrain County Jail, Clark County Jail, Cooper County Jail, Lewis County Jail, Macon County Jail, Marion County Jail, Pike County Jail, Randolph County Jail, and Shelby County Jail. These facilities are noted for their high standards of care, with many detainees reporting satisfaction with the improved conditions compared to other locations. Individuals seeking information about detainees can use the VINElink system, which provides updates and notifications about inmate locations.

This cooperative system reflects Ralls County’s dedication to balancing operational efficiency, detainee welfare, and fiscal responsibility. By partnering with neighboring facilities, the county ensures that all individuals in custody are handled securely and humanely, while the sheriff’s office remains focused on its core responsibilities to the community.
