Reeves County Detention Complex (II & I), situated approximately 3 miles southwest of Pecos, Texas, is a privately operated immigration detention facility. Initially opened in 1986 to alleviate overcrowding in contract federal inmates within county jails, it housed federal inmates from 1988 through 2006 under intergovernmental agreements with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Operated by the GEO Group initially, the Reeves County Commission assumed management of the facility after the BOP declined to renew their agreements. With a combined capacity of 3,763 prisoners spread across its three sub-complexes, it has earned the distinction of being termed the largest private prison globally. The majority of inmates at the complex are low-security offenders serving sentences ranging from one to five years for drug crimes or immigration violations. Upon release, many inmates face deportation proceedings.
