Reeves County Detention Complex (III), located approximately 3 miles southwest of Pecos, Texas, was a privately operated immigration detention facility. Originally established in 1986 to address overcrowding issues in county jails housing contract federal inmates, it transitioned to housing federal inmates from 1988 to 2006 under intergovernmental agreements with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Initially operated by the GEO Group, management of the facility was assumed by the Reeves County Commission following the BOP's decision not to renew their contract. With a collective capacity of 3,763 prisoners across its three sub-complexes, it holds the distinction of being recognized as the largest private prison globally. The inmate population primarily comprises low-security offenders serving sentences ranging from one to five years for drug crimes or immigration violations. Upon release, many inmates are subjected to deportation proceedings.
