When someone you care about ends up in a state prison, it can be tough to navigate the ins and outs of the system. From figuring out how to stay in touch to understanding what you can do to make their time easier, it can feel overwhelming. That's where this webpage comes in handy. It's here to help you get the lowdown on SCDC - Allendale Correctional Institution so you can stay connected and support your loved one during their time inside.

Communication is important, the prison offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

Allendale Correctional Institution (Allendale CI) commenced operations in 1989 as a medium-security facility catering to male inmates. Since its inception, the institution has prioritized the provision of educational opportunities, offering literacy programs, GED preparation, and adult education courses to enhance the academic skills of its incarcerated population. Additionally, comprehensive healthcare services, including routine medical and dental care with 24-hour coverage, ensure the well-being of inmates.

In 2015, Allendale CI achieved a significant milestone by becoming the SCDC's inaugural Character-Based Institution. This designation marked a pivotal shift towards a holistic approach to inmate rehabilitation, with a focus on preparing individuals for successful reintegration into society. As part of this initiative, the institution offers a diverse range of programs and services aimed at fostering personal growth and positive behavior among inmates.

Among the notable programs at Allendale CI is the Jumpstart program, a faith-based endeavor designed to equip inmates with the necessary skills and support to navigate life after incarceration successfully. The facility also hosts initiatives such as the Bee program, which involves the production of honey, and quilting workshops. Furthermore, an addiction recovery program provides support and resources to inmates struggling with substance abuse issues, while the Animal Rescue and Training Program offers opportunities for offenders to contribute positively to society through animal care and training.

In addition to its internal programs, Allendale CI is committed to community engagement through initiatives like "Operation Behind Bars." This program invites at-risk youth and adults to tour the prison, providing them with firsthand insights into the realities of incarceration and the factors contributing to criminal behavior. Through these outreach efforts, the institution aims to promote understanding and awareness within the community while fostering empathy and support for individuals in the correctional system.
