SCI Muncy, situated near Williamsport, Pennsylvania, functions as the diagnostic and classification center for female offenders entering the state prison system. Originally established in 1913 as an Industrial Home for Women, it transitioned into the State Institution at Muncy in 1953. Encompassing 793 acres, with 30 acres inside the perimeter fence, the facility houses 18 housing units, offering both cell and dormitory-style accommodations.
Special features include units catering to young adult offenders, special residential treatment, special needs, youthful offenders, intermediate treatment, and mental health units. The facility employs 562 full-time staff members.
Academic education up to the GED level and vocational education in various trades such as building, business practices, computer technology, and horticulture are available.
