The Sheboygan County WI Juvenile Detention Center is a medium to low-security detention center located at 525 N 6th St Sheboygan, WI that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes of which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.

The juvenile justice system differs from the adult system, focusing on rehabilitation and recognizing the developmental differences in juveniles. It aims to protect both the child and the public and helps juveniles become productive adults.

Juveniles are detained if they pose a threat, may miss court, or violate court orders. Parental involvement is crucial for effective supervision and rehabilitation.

Key differences in terminology include "taken into custody" instead of "arrest" and "supervision" instead of "probation." Referrals usually come from law enforcement, and an intake social worker decides the juvenile's placement. An inquiry can lead to dismissal, corrective action, or court involvement.

The process includes a plea hearing, possible evaluations, a pre-trial conference, a fact-finding hearing, and a dispositional hearing to determine the case's outcome. Parents may need to cover associated costs.

The Corrections division, the largest division of the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, has existed in some form since the office's inception. Despite several changes in staffing and operations over the years, the main goal of the Corrections division has always been to ensure public safety and promote rehabilitation. Guiding principles include inmate safety, facility security, and the care and custody of inmates, all aimed at providing quality service and protection to the citizens of Sheboygan County. In November 1998, a 95,000-square-foot, 295-bed Detention Center was constructed. Male and female offenders residing here receive basic hygiene materials, three meals per day, various programming opportunities such as education, counseling, and religious services, as well as medical and mental health care services.

The Corrections Division is also responsible for the custodial placement of juvenile offenders in Sheboygan County. The East wing of the Law Enforcement Center serves as a 27-bed Juvenile Detention Center, housing both male and female offenders. Juveniles who are not eligible for community school release and counseling attend in-house school and counseling through Campus Life.
