The Snohomish Co Jail, located at 3025 Oakes Ave in Everett, WA, is a secure detention center operated by the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. This facility primarily houses individuals awaiting trial or sentencing, typically for less than two years. It accepts inmates from various jurisdictions, including surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service, and the Everett Police Department.

New detainees are regularly admitted to the jail, with some being released on bail or placed under pretrial services caseloads. Others await their court appearances at the facility, receiving necessary accommodations such as bedding and meals. View all arrest records here.

Individuals who do not post bail within the first twenty-four hours are required to appear before a judge. During this first appearance, conducted either in person or via telephone, the judge informs the arrested person of the charges against them and sets the bond amount.

Following the intake process, which includes property inventory, medical screening, and booking, inmates are assigned to the general population. Housing assignments are based on the classification of their charges, whether felony or misdemeanor, to ensure proper management and safety within the facility.

After processing, inmates are assigned to a housing area based on classification. Compliance with jail rules typically results in a lower classification and more privileges, while rule violations or additional charges lead to a higher classification and fewer privileges. Inmates serving as trustees within the jail undertake various tasks, including cooking, laundry, and commissary management, often receiving minimal compensation or sentence reduction for their services.

The jail is designed with "pods," featuring a large common area with affixed tables and attached seats, and individual cells typically on two levels. Inmates spend certain times in their cells and other times congregating in the pod for activities like playing cards, games, reading, or watching television. Movement outside the pod, such as trips to the commissary, library, or recreation area, occurs under the constant supervision of unarmed correctional officers. The environment in the county jail is considered less stressful than that of a prison because the sentences are much shorter.

The jail offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Alternatively, setting up an account through a third-party phone company may entail high fees per minute of usage. You might qualify for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. The Jail enforces this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

Commissary is available weekly, with orders submitted via kiosk two days in advance. On holidays, there may be increased spending limits. Upon receiving commissary items, inmates must present their ID, check their order, and sign for it in the presence of the commissary employee. Indigent inmates are provided with all essential basic hygiene items including USPS stamps and writing materials.

Inmate workers are selected for community service programs based on their demonstrated good conduct, cooperation with facility staff, and adherence to institutional rules. These criteria ensure that only individuals who exhibit responsibility, reliability, and a commitment to positive behavior are allowed to participate. Participation in these programs not only benefits the community through valuable labor contributions but also offers inmates the chance to develop a strong work ethic, learn transferable job skills, and build a sense of accountability.

In certain cases, involvement in community service programs can contribute to a reduction in an inmate's sentence. This incentive reinforces the importance of maintaining good behavior while incarcerated and highlights the program's dual role in supporting both the community and the inmate's journey toward reintegration.

Visitation Information

Professional contact visit times for inmates requiring a multiple deputy escort (2-deputy detail, 3-deputy detail, etc.) will be limited to 8:30 am-10:00 am and 2:00 pm-6:00 pm. Exceptions to this will be considered on a case-by-case basis only by the Shift Lieutenant or their designee.

Inmates will only be permitted to have social video visits during scheduled time out of their cells. An inmate’s time out of their cell schedule is different for most jail housing units and often changes for operational or security reasons. Each inmate is responsible for communicating to their visitors when their scheduled time out of their cell will be. Jail staff will not provide this information to the public. All visits are a maximum of 30 minutes in length.

Professional visitors will, in most cases, be provided access to remote video visiting outside of the inmate’s scheduled time out. Prior to beginning a video visit, the professional visitor must contact the Video Visit Deputy in person or by phone to request the visit. This video visit deputy will coordinate the visit with the module deputy where the inmate is assigned. On occasion, these visits may not be able to be accommodated due to a facility's operational or security reason.

How to Schedule Social Visits - Family and Friends - Family and friends of inmates at the Snohomish County Jail must now register online to schedule inmate visits. A valid email address is required to register. Once registration is complete, visitors may quickly and easily schedule visits, receive email confirmation of the visits, and notification ahead of time if the inmate is unable to attend a scheduled visit. All social inmate visits are done remotely; social contact visits are not allowed.

Professional Visitors - Legal representatives (attorneys, paralegals, interpreters), law enforcement officials, medical personnel, social workers, and others who need to schedule time to visit an inmate for professional purposes have two options:

1. Contact Visits: Contact visits will be granted only for approved professional visitors. To schedule a professional contact visit, please email the Professional Visit Request Form (PDF) to the inmate visitation division at least 4 hours in advance of the requested visit time. NOTE: Please see top of this page for change to visit hours for inmates requiring multiple-deputy escort.

If you have not been previously cleared as a professional visitor at this facility you will be contacted and asked to provide additional information before your contact visit is approved.

2. Video Visits: Professional visitors who wish to visit an inmate using the video system will use the same online system described above for social visits.

Lobby Video Visitation - On-site video visitation at the Snohomish County Jail is temporarily closed until further notice.

Check-In - All visitors are asked to check in at the video visitation desk in the reception area of the jail at 3025 Oakes Ave, Everett., at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit start time. No visits will be extended to accommodate late arrivals.
