The Taylor Co CSCD is overseen by the Texas Department of Corrections and consists of six community-based programs that supervise both pre-sentenced and sentenced offenders, prioritizing public safety and cost-effective alternatives to incarceration. Working in collaboration with the Department's Work Release Center, located at 450 Pecan St Abilene, TX, and other criminal justice agencies, the division oversees thousands of offenders in the community.
The Taylor County Community Supervision and Corrections Department is committed to safeguarding the community and facilitating the rehabilitation of offenders while upholding the integrity and independence of the judiciary. Responsible for supervising offenders sentenced to community supervision in Taylor, Callahan, and Coleman Counties, the department's mission is to protect the public through court-ordered sanctions and provide services to aid offenders in becoming productive community members.
A key focus area is the Aggressive Behavior Violence Caseload, specifically targeting domestic violence offenders. These offenders undergo 12 months of supervision, during which they are held accountable to supervision conditions and participate in behavioral cognitive programs aimed at modifying their behavior.
Additionally, the department operates an in-house Counseling Program, catering to offenders court-ordered for misdemeanor and/or felony sex offenses or those with substance abuse issues. Supervised by specialized officers, participants engage in individual and group therapy sessions led by a licensed professional counselor and receive substance abuse counseling administered by a licensed chemical dependency counselor.
The Substance Abuse Program spans up to one year and involves weekly group meetings and individual counseling sessions to support probationers in their recovery journey.
Furthermore, the Orientation, Intake, and Transfer Unit Program ensures comprehensive intake and transfer procedures for every new offender granted community supervision. This process ensures that thorough information is available for assessment, enabling the department to determine appropriate supervision dispositions to address probationer needs and enhance community safety.
