The Taylor Street Center located at 111 Taylor St San Francisco, CA, focuses on successful offender reintegration into society, crucial for effective crime control. With high recidivism rates, evidence-based practices tailor programs for medium to high-risk individuals, reducing repeat offenses. Reentry and Treatment Centers offer structured environments and various programs aiding rehabilitation and community reconnection efforts. Collaborating with the San Francisco Sheriff's Department, the California Department of Corrections, and sometimes the US Marshal Service/Federal Bureau of Prisons, comprehensive reentry services prioritize education, substance abuse treatment, and workforce development. Facilities assist officers in monitoring compliance and serve as alternatives to pretrial detention, considering cost-effectiveness and reducing overcrowding. Emphasizing individual needs, family support, and community integration, the center aims for holistic support, empowering successful reintegration.
Client: California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) Taylor Street Center has been in operation for nearly 30 years. During that time, the program expanded its programming to accommodate growing needs. The Taylor Street Center provides temporary, gender-specific housing, and transitional services for adult male and female offenders. The center offers reentry assistance for federal custody and state parolees using evidence-based practices (EBP) to successfully transition offenders into their local communities. The process involves teaching life skills so individuals can become productive citizens. GEO Residential Reentry Centers provide services seven days a week offering structure and flexibility to meet participant risks needs and agency goals. GEO Reentry’s EBP program directly addresses the criminogenic needs of referred participants. Our residential program can also integrate with electronic monitoring and home detention.
Programs and services currently offered at the Taylor Street Center include, life skills, substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis prevention education, GED preparation, employment assistance, specialized programs, cultural diversity education, women’s group, suicide precaution class, weekly meditation group, and prison fellowship/spirituality services.
The center is an earthquake-safe and wheelchair-accessible four-story building that includes participant housing and rooms for recreation, dining, and visitation. Located within walking distance of San Francisco’s Financial District, the center provides a convenient location for residents to have easy access to shops, restaurants, public transportation and banking facilities, enhancing their employment opportunities.
