Located in Jacksboro, TX, Lindsey State Jail operates as a private contractor with various government agency agreements providing state-minimum custody requirements. Programs are offered to all custody levels, including work release residents focused on reentry success. With a strong emphasis on rehabilitation, Lindsey State Jail provides comprehensive educational and vocational opportunities. Onsite amenities include dietary, health, fitness, educational, religious, and recreational services. Lindsey State Jail, designated for male inmates, can house up to 1,031 individuals, spanning various custody levels from J1 to J5, as well as G1 and G2. Situated on approximately 64 acres of land, this facility does not engage in agricultural or manufacturing operations.
Unit Maintenance is a key focus of facility operations, ensuring the upkeep and functionality of the premises. Additionally, Lindsey State Jail operates a Regional Transitional Planning program, aiding inmates in their transition back to society upon release.
Medical care at Lindsey State Jail encompasses ambulatory services for medical, dental, and mental health needs, all conveniently provided on a single level. These services are overseen and managed by UTMB, ensuring comprehensive healthcare delivery.
In terms of educational opportunities, inmates have access to Adult Basic Education and GED programs, as well as courses in Life Skills and Remedial Studies. Vocational training programs include Computer Applications and Horticulture, providing practical skills for future employment prospects.

These include a Faith-Based Dormitory, an Adult Education Program (subject to availability), Chaplaincy Services, and the GO KIDS Initiative, aimed at fostering positive relationships between inmates and their children.
While the facility does not engage in community work projects, it encourages volunteer initiatives such as support groups and religious or faith-based studies and activities. Confirm the unit visitation schedule and verify that visitation has not been canceled. An eligible inmate cannot receive visitors if visitation has been canceled.

Special visits or visits requiring special accommodations should be arranged before the visit. If you have made special arrangements with the unit, call before leaving to ensure that plans for your visit have been made and are in place. Spiritual visits must be coordinated through the warden’s office.
Each inmate is only allowed one visit per weekend. To the extent possible, individuals on an inmate’s Visitors List should coordinate with one another and with the inmate to prevent subsequent visitors from being declined when they arrive at the unit.
