Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. The Roach Unit is designated for male inmates, accommodating up to 1,384 individuals across custody levels G1, G2, and G4. Situated on approximately 1,651 acres, it operates various agricultural initiatives, including security horse and pack canine programs, a unit food bank garden, and contract farming operations. Additionally, the facility houses manufacturing and logistics operations such as a soap and detergent factory and the Childress Distribution Center.
Facility operations are overseen by the Region V (Panhandle Region) Maintenance Headquarters, ensuring smooth functioning and upkeep of the premises. Specialized operations include the deployment of scent-specific canines and Human Remains Detection (HRD) canines for specific purposes within the facility.
Roach Unit offers comprehensive medical services, including ambulatory care, dental services, and mental health support. Telemedicine services are available, along with housing accommodations for CPAP users, all managed by Texas Tech.
Educational programs at Roach encompass a wide range of subjects, including literacy, special education, pre-release initiatives, English as a Second Language (ESL), and cognitive intervention.
