At Treasure Valley Community Reentry Center (TVCRC)'s state corrections facility, well-behaved inmates can join a work release program, getting regular jobs in the public sector during the day. Depending on the rules, they might work weekdays and go home at night, serving their sentences only on weekends. Some stay in halfway houses or at home when they're not working. As they get closer to getting out, they might switch to reintegration programs and could even get full-time jobs when they are released.
This program has perks like better chances of finding a job after getting out, finding work faster, making more money afterward, and being less likely to go back to jail. TVCRC wants to help inmates succeed in getting back into society.
Opened in August 2004, the Treasure Valley Community Reentry Center accommodates up to 108 male inmates classified as minimum and community custody. In June 2009, a new building was added to facilitate classrooms, visiting, administrative offices, and housing for inmates nearing release. Aligned with the IDOC's mission to Protect Idaho through Safety, Accountability, Partnerships, and Opportunities for Offender Change, the facility's leadership emphasizes community-based employment, treatment programs, support groups, community service, and other initiatives to foster a positive return to the community. Inmates at the center are permitted to work outside the facility, aiding in their preparation for reintegration while ensuring community protection through stringent accountability and supervision. It's important to note that contraband possession or introduction within the facility is strictly prohibited by Idaho law, with violations carrying significant penalties, including imprisonment and fines.
