The Tripp County Sheriff’s Office, under the leadership of Sheriff Shawn Pettit, serves as the sole law enforcement agency for Tripp County, providing essential services with a focus on respect, dignity, and professionalism. Guided by core values of teamwork, honor, integrity, and pride, the Sheriff’s Office oversees a broad range of responsibilities, including community policing, emergency response, criminal investigations, and enforcement of court orders. While Tripp County does not maintain an on-site jail, it contracts with the Winner City Jail, in Winner, SD, ensuring efficient and secure detention services.
As the central hub for law enforcement and administrative functions, the Tripp County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for the initial booking process for individuals arrested within the county. This process includes documenting personal information, recording details of the arrest, and collecting fingerprints and photographs. Following booking, arrestees are promptly transferred to the Winner City Jail, a modern facility equipped to provide housing, meals, medical care, and access to legal and rehabilitative resources. The jail also facilitates inmate visitation and communication with families and attorneys, upholding due process and humane treatment standards.
This partnership allows the Tripp County Sheriff’s Office to focus on its primary mission of maintaining public safety and community well-being while relying on the Winner City Jail’s specialized infrastructure for inmate management. The seamless collaboration ensures that both law enforcement operations and detainee care are handled efficiently and effectively, meeting the needs of the community and supporting a fair and secure justice system.
