The Tuscumbia Jail serves as a low/medium-security city detention center located at 218 S Dickson St in Tuscumbia, AL. Operated locally by the police and sheriff's departments, it houses inmates and detainees awaiting trial or sentencing. Most sentenced inmates have terms of less than two years. The facility also accepts inmates from surrounding towns and occasionally from the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees are regularly admitted to the jail, with some being released on bail or placed under pretrial services caseloads. Others may be supervised by probation agencies or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who remain in custody await their court appearances at the facility, receiving accommodations such as bedding and meals.

When someone you care about gets arrested, it can be overwhelming. This webpage aims to ease your concerns by providing information about the City Jail which is a secure detention center operated by the Colbert County Sheriff's Office for female inmates only. These detainees are awaiting trial or sentencing, typically for less than one year.

Individuals who do not post bail within the first twenty-four hours are required to appear before a judge. During this first appearance, conducted either in person or via telephone, the judge informs the arrested person of the charges against them and sets the bond amount. Following the intake process, which includes property inventory, medical screening, and booking, inmates are assigned to the general population. Housing assignments are based on the classification of their charges, whether felony or misdemeanor, to ensure proper management and safety within the facility.

Each inmate will be allowed to file a request for clothing with the jail staff after they are arrested and booked into the jail. Once this request is approved, the inmate will call or write a letter to a family or friend to get them to prepare him a clothing package. This package can ONLY be mailed. It can not be dropped off at the jail. Do NOT send the package until you know the inmate has gotten the request approved. Packages that have not been approved will be returned to the sender. The package can only contain the following items:

All items must be new, unopened, and in original packaging. The following sets of personal items are acceptable for the inmate's possession in the jail: 3 pairs of white socks, 3 pairs of white underwear, 3 white t-shirts, 3 white towels, and 3 white wash clothes. Only THREE (3) of each item is allowed. Any other items have to be ordered from the commissary, with funds deposited into your inmate's account via JailATM.

The jail offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Alternatively, setting up an account through a third-party phone company may entail high fees per minute of usage. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. The Jail enforces this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
