Halifax Correctional Unit, a level 1 minimum security facility overseen by the Virginia Department of Corrections, accommodates up to 248 male inmates. The facility comprises eight housing units and a segregation unit, with the visiting and education annex situated adjacent to the main complex. While segregation inmates are housed in cells, the general population resides in open dormitories.
Operating a textile industry employing 48 inmates, Halifax Correctional Unit manufactures clothing and sheets. Additionally, the facility hosts three large greenhouses and a crop field spanning over ten acres. An agriculture meat production operation allows inmates to work with Boer Goats.
