Communication is important, the prison offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.
While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
PSCC, established in 2007, stands as one of Virginia's newer prisons, operating at a level 3 security classification. With a capacity to accommodate 1,034 inmates, PSCC serves as a secure correctional facility. The assignment criteria for security levels 2-3 dictate considerations such as sentence duration, behavioral history, and eligibility for transfer to less secure facilities.
Comprising four housing units, each housing three pods, PSCC ensures accessibility to counselors within the units. Essential facilities such as the visiting room, gymnasium, kitchen, dining halls, laundry, and vocational and education classrooms are housed in a separate building. Security measures include a perimeter fence fortified with razor wire and over 180 surveillance cameras.
Inmates at PSCC have the opportunity to engage in technical training programs covering flooring application, computer-aided drafting (CAD), small engine repair, and building maintenance. The facility also provides two recreation yards and a medical and mental health treatment area offering basic medical services to inmates.
Within the Virginia state prison system, PSCC contributes to constructive inmate occupation and unrest reduction through various programs and services. These initiatives cater to both short-term and long-term inmates, targeting positive prison adjustment and recidivism reduction. Treatment planning upon reception into the system ensures tailored programming for inmates' security and treatment needs, with periodic evaluations and updates.
Core programs encompass inmate work activities, substance abuse treatment, mental health services, and life skills programming. Substance abuse programming, including intensive treatment in Therapeutic Community (TC) programs, aids in addressing underlying issues contributing to criminal behavior. Additionally, education programs, support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, and life skills courses prepare inmates for reintegration into the community upon release.
Furthermore, PSCC offers a variety of other programs to meet the diverse needs of inmates, including behavior management, women offender support, anger management, geriatric care, and victim services, fostering holistic rehabilitation within the correctional setting.
PSCC maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
If unable to locate the desired information through free resources, users may opt to use the Arrest Record Search, which requires payment. While this option incurs a small fee, it provides access to the most up-to-date data available.
