The Volusia Correctional is a detention center located at 1354 Indian Lake Rd Daytona Beach, FL which is operated locally by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Volusia County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Daytona Beach Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
The Correctional Facility houses inmates who are county-sentenced, as well as low and medium custody non-sentenced males, and all female inmates. With a design capacity of 595 inmates, the facility ensures that those arrested remain in custody until they post bond or are released by a judge. Within one day of admission to the jail, individuals appear before a judge for a First Appearance hearing. During this hearing, the charges against the detainee are formally read, and the judge determines if probable cause was used for the detention. The judge may adjust the bond amount or release the person on their own recognizance, and will appoint a public defender if the individual cannot afford an attorney.
The courtroom for First Appearance hearings is located at the Volusia County Branch Jail, 1300 Red John Road, Daytona Beach. Hearings are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and at 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. These hearings are open to the public.
After the initial court appearance, inmates are transferred from the intake housing unit to Case Management orientation, where a Case Counselor interviews and classifies each inmate based on their charges, criminal history, and other factors. Once classified, security staff assigns inmates to appropriate housing units. Inmate classifications can change during their stay depending on behavior or new charges. Each unit has a Case Counselor available for assistance, and inmates can communicate with their counselor as needed.
Typically, it takes one to two days for the clerk to process future court dates following the First Appearance. Inmates may have subsequent court proceedings such as Arraignments, Hearings, Pretrials, and Trials, which can take place at any of the county’s four locations. For information on inmate court dates and locations, visit the Clerk of the Court’s website at www.clerk.org.
Books and magazines ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate.

Appointments can be scheduled 24 hours a day, seven days a week using the automated phone scheduling system. All visitors must check in 10 minutes prior to their scheduled visitation session.
For the safety and security of the facility, inmate population and staff, the Corrections Division does not provide contact visitation. Visitation is held in the Visitation Center at 1300A Red John Drive (next to the Branch Jail).
To schedule a visit, you will first need to know the inmate’s 6-digit booking number. If you do not know the inmate’s booking number, the number can be found by clicking the link: Inmate Information Search Page.
Visits are restricted during the initial 72 hours of incarceration and must be approved by the Operations Supervisor. The restriction is due to inmates participating in numerous classification activities, housing changes, court appearances, and medical evaluations during the first days of incarceration. After processing a visitor’s card your name must be on the designated visitor’s list.
