At WA DOC - Ahtanum View Reentry Center's state corrections facility, well-behaved inmates can join a work release program, getting regular jobs in the public sector during the day. Depending on the rules, they might work weekdays and go home at night, serving their sentences only on weekends. Some stay in halfway houses or at home when they're not working. As they get closer to getting out, they might switch to reintegration programs and could even get full-time jobs when they are released.
This program has perks like better chances of finding a job after getting out, finding work faster, making more money afterward, and being less likely to go back to jail. Ahtanum View Reentry Center wants to help inmates succeed in getting back into society.
The Ahtanum View Reentry Center facility offers a transitional environment for both male (52 beds) and female (8 beds) offenders, providing programming in chemical dependency, family and personal counseling, and anger management. This phase of work release serves as a crucial bridge between prison life and community reintegration. Participants focus on securing employment, reconnecting with family, and refining social and living skills under supervision, to foster self-improvement and facilitate a smooth transition to a safe and productive lifestyle upon release.
Eligibility for the program typically requires offenders to have six months remaining on their sentence and a history of good behavior, alongside available bed space. Participants must adhere to program rules, including actively seeking or maintaining employment, undergoing substance abuse testing, and attending therapy and programming. Failure to comply may result in sanctions or termination from the program.
Overall, Ahtanum View Work Release prioritizes employment, treatment, family reunification, and life skill development to support successful community reintegration for participants.
