The Wakulla Co Jail is a detention center located at 15 Oak St Crawfordville, FL which is operated locally by the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Wakulla County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Crawfordville Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.
New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.
The Wakulla County Detention Facility is the largest division within the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, dedicated to the care, custody, and control of incarcerated individuals. Constructed in 1991 with an initial capacity of 139 inmates, the facility expanded in 2004 with an additional wing to accommodate approximately 200 more inmates, bringing the total rated capacity to 350. The facility is bifurcated into two sections: one for local inmates and another for immigration detainees.
Under the command of Captain Scott Taff, the Facility Administrator, the Wakulla County Detention Facility is staffed by 60 members. Medical services are provided through a contract with Genesys Health Alliance, while food services are managed by Trinity.
The facility received its first accreditation from the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission in October 2002 and has been consistently reaccredited, achieving honors in August 2005, October 2008, September 2011, and October 2014. In October 2017 and 2020, the facility was awarded excelsior reaccreditation.
Designed to meet the daily needs of inmates and detainees, the facility offers a comprehensive array of programs aimed at keeping inmates productive and reducing the community's tax burden. These programs reflect the facility's commitment to maintaining high standards of care and security for those in its custody.
