The Welsh Police Department is a short-term police lock-up located at 201 W South St in Welsh, LA. It serves as the holding facility for the Welch Police Department Jail or agencies within the judicial district of Jefferson Davis Parish County and is operated to hold inmates awaiting transfer to the Jefferson Davis Parish County Jail.

On Tuesday, February 21, 2017 around 7:15pm officers with the Welsh Police Department were dispatched to the area of the area of Prudhomme and Martin Luther King Streets. The officers were dispatched to a possible domestic abuse battery in progress. The officers were given a description of the suspect and victim.
