The West Central Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) serves as a secure holding facility for young individuals from the counties of Auglaize, Clinton, Darke, Mercer, Miami, Preble, Shelby, and Van Wert. With a capacity to accommodate up to 44 residents, the center ensures that the basic needs of the youth are met through comprehensive care and structured programming.

At the West Central JDC, residents are provided with three balanced meals each day. They engage in daily structured gym exercises, which are integral to their physical well-being. The center also offers an on-site educational program from Monday to Friday, ensuring that academic needs are addressed, which are more detailed in this Resident Handbook. Additionally, the facility mandates participation in various group programs designed to address and support personal development and rehabilitation. These programs include anger management, substance abuse education, health and hygiene instruction, and sessions facilitated by Planned Parenthood. Moreover, the youth participate in discussions about life choices and benefit from the insights of various community leaders and motivational speakers. For those who seek spiritual engagement, optional programs such as a Bible study and a Sunday morning service are available.

The facility also offers the STAR (Start Today Accepting Responsibility) Program, which targets high-risk youth aged 12 to 17. This program is specifically for those who have been referred by the juvenile court and includes a realistic tour of the detention center. Participation in the STAR Program requires the presence of at least one parent along with the referred youth, emphasizing the collaborative effort between the court, the facility, and the family in addressing the youth's behavior and responsibility.
