WI DOC - Oakhill Correctional Institution (OCI) - Inmate Handbook
Oakhill Correctional Institution (OCI) is a minimum-security state prison nestled in Dane County, Wisconsin, originally established in 1941 as the Wisconsin School for Girls. However, in 1976, it underwent conversion to accommodate adult males in a minimum custody setting. Presently, OCI houses around 685 inmates and employs a staff of 265 individuals, with 177 dedicated to security roles. The institution maintains security with a 6,000-foot-long stun fence encompassing the premises.
At OCI, a range of pre-release programs is offered to facilitate offenders' transition back into society upon discharge from the Department of Corrections. Moreover, the facility engages inmates in productive work through the Badger State Industries program, focusing on upholstery/re-upholstery and refinishing operations. Technical training opportunities abound, covering areas such as horticulture, food preparation services, and various construction disciplines. Additionally, OCI prioritizes education by providing adult basic education and GED courses to its inmate population. A comprehensive suite of programs, including anger management, Narcotics/Alcoholics Anonymous, victim awareness, cognitive intervention, and parenting classes, aims to address diverse needs and promote rehabilitation.
