Communication is important, the prison offers a phone program for outbound calls only, with inmates unable to receive incoming calls. Accepting collect calls can be expensive, sometimes exceeding $10 per call. Click here for discounts on inmate calls, especially if the communication with your inmate is frequent. It's important to remember that all phone calls are recorded, and discussing sensitive legal matters over these lines is discouraged.

While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.

WI DOC - Racine Correctional Institution - Inmate Handbook

Racine Correctional Institution (RCI) in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, serves as a medium-security facility aiming to foster positive change in inmates while ensuring safety and security. Originally established in 1991, RCI is housed in a former prep school facility, repurposed to accommodate approximately 1,600 adult male offenders. The institution also oversees the Sturtevant Transitional Facility, housing parolees, probationers, and work release program participants.

RCI provides comprehensive medical, dental, and mental health services, including access to psychiatric appointments. Educational and vocational opportunities are offered to inmates, encompassing GED courses, anger management, cognitive intervention, domestic violence programs, and skill-building workshops like Cage Your Rage and assertiveness training.

The facility's history traces back to the founding of St. Bonaventure Prep School in 1901, which relocated to Sturtevant in 1921 to serve a larger Polish population. Financial challenges led to the school's closure in 1983, after which RCI was established on the site to house adult male offenders.

Inmates undergo intake processes at reception sites like Dodge Correctional Institution, where they receive orientation and assessments spanning security expectations, daily living routines, and business matters. Assessment and evaluation, conducted over eight weeks, determine custody levels, program assignments, and site placements.

During their incarceration, inmates are presented with various opportunities, including community service, vocational training, and recreational activities, aimed at fostering personal growth and preparing for successful reintegration into society. Additionally, electronic messaging services via CorrLinks facilitate communication with family and friends, contributing to inmates' social connections and support networks.
