While incarcerated, reading is often the best use of time. Please note that books and magazines, puzzles, and word searches ordered for inmates must come directly from the publisher. This policy ensures that the items are new, untampered, and comply with the facility's regulations. Prisons and jails enforce this rule to prevent the introduction of contraband or prohibited materials. By restricting orders to publishers, the facility can better maintain security and control over the content entering the institution. Any books or magazines not received directly from the publisher will be rejected and not delivered to the inmate. You may, however, send letters and selfies to inmates with this easy-to-use app, packages starting at only $8.00.
The Wyoming Women's Center, established in 1977 and formally recognized by the Wyoming State Legislature in 1980, initially housed 82 beds and later expanded to accommodate 261 beds in the main facility and 32 beds in the Intensive Treatment Unit. Alongside its housing facilities, the center features an Aquaculture building where inmates raise Tilapia fish.
In addition to housing, the center offers various programs aimed at inmate rehabilitation and skill development. These programs include GED classes, computer literacy courses, parenting workshops, workforce development initiatives, critical thinking training, and culinary arts and dietary management programs.
Furthermore, the center adheres to a comprehensive set of prison policies outlined by the Wyoming Department of Corrections (WY DOC). These policies cover a wide range of offender programs, including vocational and academic education, recreational activities, visiting regulations, mail and telephone access, legal services, library services, and religious activities, including religious dietary programs.
Through these facilities and programs, the Wyoming Women's Center endeavors to provide a supportive environment for female inmates, promoting their rehabilitation and successful reintegration into society.
WY DOC - Wyoming Women's Center maintains a database of current inmates and their locations within the system. To locate an inmate, begin by using the DOC locator tool, which requires entering the first three letters of the inmate's first and last name, allowing for variations in spelling.
