The Yuma Co Jail is a detention center located at 200 W Court St Yuma, AZ which is operated locally by the Yuma County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Yuma County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, Yuma Police Department, and the US Marshal's Service.

New detainees arrive at the jail regularly, with some being released on bail, placed under pretrial services caseloads, supervised by probation agencies, or released on recognizance with a court appearance agreement. Those who are not released await their court appearances at the jail, receiving accommodations including bedding and meals.

The Yuma County Detention Center is a maximum-security facility designed to receive, process, and house inmates detained prior to trial, as well as those in various phases of the criminal justice system. Additionally, it accommodates inmates sentenced by County and City courts. The facility has a rated capacity of 756 inmates. The mission of the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office Detention Bureau is to ensure the safety and security of individuals who are arrested, awaiting trial, and those sentenced to the Sheriff's custody.

In 2023, the average daily population at the Yuma County Detention Center was 423 inmates, marking a 7.03% decrease from the 2022 average of 455 inmates. The female inmate population in 2023 saw a 2.67% increase compared to the previous year. The average daily number of juvenile inmates remained unchanged from 2022, comprising less than 1% of the total inmate population. Despite their small numbers, juvenile offenders have a disproportionately significant impact on the system due to their need for close supervision and additional staff to manage special requirements.

Juvenile inmates must be separated from adult inmates by "sight and sound" and are provided with opportunities for education within the facility. They must also have daily exercise and their unique nutritional needs met. These requirements necessitate extra resources and specialized management to ensure compliance with legal standards and the well-being of the juvenile population.

Mail sent to inmates via regular mail at the Detention Facility will be inspected by jail staff before being delivered to the inmate. Magazines and books are only accepted if they are received through the USPS or other commercial carriers directly from a publisher, ensuring that no literature from personal senders is accepted. Inmates may subscribe to periodicals, but these subscriptions must be arranged and maintained by the inmate or their family without assistance from the jail. All books and periodicals must be addressed with the inmate’s full name as it appears on their ID.
