Lynchburg Detention Center Visitation Rules and Guidelines

All visitors must adhere to the facility's visitation rules. Failure to comply may result in denial of visitation privileges.

General Visitation Rules

  • Visitor Searches: All visitors are subject to search upon entry.
  • Schedule Changes: Visitation may be delayed or canceled without notice due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Cell Phones & Electronic Devices: The use of cell phones is prohibited inside the facility. Devices must be turned off and stored away. No recording equipment or electronic devices are allowed in the visitation area unless expressly approved by the Site Administrator.
  • Visitor Approval: Visitors must be listed on the inmate’s approved visitation list.
  • Age Restrictions: Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Alternatively, minors may submit a notarized Juvenile Visitation Form and be accompanied by an authorized adult visitor. Only non-incarcerated parents or legal guardians may authorize a minor's visit. Forms are available from the on-duty officer.
  • Identification: A valid, undamaged photo ID is required for all visitors. Altered, torn, taped, or damaged IDs will not be accepted. No exceptions.
  • Personal Belongings: Visitors should leave all personal belongings in their vehicles.
  • Visit Limitations: Each inmate is allowed one visit per week with a maximum of three adult visitors per session.
  • Former Inmates: Individuals previously incarcerated at a Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority (BRRJA) facility must wait six months after release before visiting an inmate.
  • Matching Identification: The name on the visitor’s ID must match the name listed on the inmate’s visitation list.

Dress Code

Visitors must dress appropriately. The following attire is not permitted:

  • See-through clothing
  • Tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, sleeveless tops, or sleeveless dresses
  • Mini skirts or bathing suits
  • Shorts, skirts, or dresses shorter than three inches above the knee
  • Clothing deemed inappropriate by the Shift Leader
  • Hats, headgear, or hooded clothing (exceptions are made for religious or medical reasons, but alternative security measures may be required)
  • Shoes must be worn at all times

Deliverable Items

Visitors may bring the following items for inmates:

  • Prescription eyeglasses (without a case)
  • One (1) medic alert bracelet or necklace
  • Prescription medication (subject to approval by facility medical staff)
  • Hearing aids
  • Dentures
  • Attorneys, probation officers, and social services workers may leave legal documents or other approved items with authorization from the Site Administrator.

  • Housing Unit C | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Tuesday

  • Housing Unit L | 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Medical Unit | 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Housing Unit M | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Wednesday

  • Housing Unit E | 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Housing Unit H | 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
