How long does it take to get a court date for being held on contempt for owed back child support? Can you get sent to prison for this?

You can get the information from the Clerk of the Court in the jurisdiction that holds him. The judge presiding is going to be a little angry and depending how many times your friend has been before the judge on the same issue might, it may create a hardship going forward. If he can demonstrate a willingness to pay what he owes, he might not have to stay in jail long. BUT, child support is a hot issue now and your friend is "playing with fire" by not making an effort making payments for his children.
