No, that "exception" pertains to how a phone service is funded. There are about 30 prison phone companies that fight for the contracts of over ten-thousand facilities. The federal system is self-contained, there are no outside providers. This means that your inmate has money deposted on his TruLinks account (where his money is deposited by Western Union), the inmate moves the money between telephone, commissary and email. The cost of the calls are paid for from these funds, not a "pre-paid account" like it is in the state and county jails. InmateAid is not a replacement for any of the services, whether they be state, county or federal. In most cases we can get a local number that will make the calls cheaper. In federal it is very simple and clearcut: Local calls cost SIX CENTS per minute, long distance calls are TWENTY-ONE CENTS minute. The difference in the price per minute is why our service has benefit and value.
