If you have researched the inmate's name in the Inmate Locator and there is no ID #, you may send the letter without the number. There are some facilities that do not have numbers for their inmates.

InmateAid letters are sent the same day they are created by you via US Mail. The letters/photos are delivered to the inmate at mail call a day or two after posting. Please be mindful that the staff inside the prison opens every letter for contraband which may delay the actual delivery.

Generally speaking, prisons consider mail sacred and will do whatever they can to deliver it to the person it's intended for. They will make ever effort to connect the name on the envelope to a recipient at their prison. The basic connection to someone on the outside is seen as a crucial element to rehabilitation and the goal of not having the inmate come back.

Anyone can send mail to an inmate at Leavenworth, the only list you need to be on is for the telephone and visitation. Be mindful that ALL mail is opened and checked by the staff for contraband before it's delivered to the inmate.

InmateAid's letter mailing service is designed to make communication easier on you as you can do it all from a smartphone or computer. Jails and prisons do NOT allow self-addressed stamp envelopes past the mail room. The rule is for the inmate to purchase stamps and writing utensils from the commissary.
