The Bedford County Detention is a locally operated low to medium-security regional detention center situated at 1000 Broad St in Bedford, VA. This facility houses inmates from multiple surrounding counties that do not have a holding facility or jail, in addition to local detainees. Individuals awaiting trial or sentencing, as well as those serving shorter sentences, typically serve less than five years. Bedford County Detention accommodates detainees brought in by the Bedford County Sheriff's Office, the Virginia DOC, Bedford Police Department, and other nearby law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

The BADC incorporates both direct and indirect supervision models for medium- and maximum-security inmates, while minimum-security and work-release inmates are housed in dormitory-style units under direct supervision. Additional features encompass full-service laundry and kitchen areas, medical units, intake and booking areas, magistrate offices, educational services, and administrative spaces. Programs offered to inmates include Alcoholics Anonymous, GED classes, religious services, life skills training, work release, home electronic monitoring, and an inmate worker program.
